The publication emerged from research we began at the Swiss Institute in Rome as part of a scholarship in 2012/13.
The investigation focusses on the urban void, which is shaped as a vessel by the surrounding architecture. Exterior spaces of the city of Rome from 1748 - documented by ‘La Nuova Topografia di Roma’ by Giambattista Nolli - are juxtaposed with the current conditions.
The plan graphic conveys the content very directly. Drawing is the creative act that brings the findings to light.
