The proposed extension of the Graubünden Museum of Nature aims to use natural materials to create spaces that will enable visitors to experience nature directly with all their senses. While the existing building—designed by Bruno Giacometti in the 1970s—is to be functionally and atmospherically enhanced in its original quality with a few clarifying interventions, two new rooms will enhance the existing museum: the large exhibition hall embedded in the ground with a view of two sunken gardens rich in vegetation, and the minimally enlarged roof structure for visitors with a view of the roof garden and beyond into the landscape. Around the museum, the outdoor spaces to the south and west will be upgraded in the form of landscaped gardens and, depending on requirements, made accessible either to the museum or to the public.
